wowsa cappa...

so i arrive in the night...the shuttle ride is indeed hair raising (was certain speedy gonzalez would kill us)...eventually the speed mobile stopped and we got out...it is so hard to describe...the pictures can in no way do the experience of this place justice...the sounds of a cat death match...a barking dog (haakon was quick to tell me the beast was on a leash so we were okay)...the scratchy faced neighbor greeted us all...i found his wickedly scratchy beard a treat...and then as we reach the door way (i am in tears at this point...exhausted and definetely our of my element) snickers the neighborhood donkey lets out this fantastic "hey how the hell are you"...i am quite certain i peed a little...the experience just too over whelming...

the house is fantastic in the dark and even more so in the morning light...i had my own quarters in the lower level off of the courtyard. this is the doorway that leads to the courtyard stairs from the main part of the house...i love this door...

we set out for a "check out the hood" walk...give me a chance to see the neighborhood in the daylight...

we headed into one of the valleys for a better look at some of the scenery...

there will be many more pics like this in the coming blogs...below is byron outside the j-p's front door...byron claims many bumps and scrapes from a year of low doorways...
in the evening joce and i headed out to see more of the area and to attend dervish ceremony...the famous snickers was just around the corner to greet me (the j-ps named the neighbors donkey)...here i am with snickers and his owner...this overly friendly man kissed me twice over the visit...memorable for sure...
the dervish ceremony was really interesting...very calming...almost hypnotic....

after the dervish ceremony we set our on our evening walk to göreme...it was lovely...i think it was only 2-3 km...great chat with joce and many photo ops...

the land scape is jaw dropping...
okay we are dorks...we set up a camera on a ledge to try and take a pic and then both underestimated the scope of the camera...
i decided to play house...there is a smile on my face...the truth is i am holding my breath..."hurry and take the pic jp...smell pee...smell pee"
the joce...(am loving this time with her)
there are thousands of churches in the caves of cappadocia...
arrive in göreme as the sun sets...pick up the rental car for the next two days of sightseeing...
my first day in the j-p habitat was fantastic...the magic of this place reveals itself again and again...
kir

ps for my ginny-i am so sorry you are not here...my eyes are crazy full and we have only just begun...loving you...
